CrossFit and Cardio

I have been bringing my kids in for the free sessions of CrossFit Kids at CrossFit Impavidus.  They LOVE It. Even after a full day of camp, both of my kids are excited to go. That makes me really happy. Yesterday, they had to do a 5m AMRAP with 5 front squat/ball toss and 3 burpees. HB was like a firecracker and cranked out 12 rounds! She had a fire in her eyes that I had never seen.  It was awesome. Nate did great too but he tends to show lack of motivation — and stops, fiddles. He did do 7 rounds which is great.

I love that my kids are getting into it too. I don’t know if I mentioned this, but my older brother – Jon, has started doing CF as well in San Fran. He calls me to talk about it all the time — I love sharing a common interest with him, especially one i am so passionate about. He’s getting on the CF passion train as well. You can’t help it – really.

One thing I need to reignite is my passion for Paleo, healthier eating. It’s been tough to stay focused on it over the summer –with our trips, my work travel, the stress. I haven’t gone totally hog wild or anything — but certainly not as focused or strict as I should be. The other night, I actually had Pop Chips for dinner – a bag of Pop Chips. Yes, they are gluten free but that’s not healthy. And it may be in my head — but I can feel some extra poundage. It’s hard to grasp why it takes so darn long to lose it but super quick to put the lbs back on. That just isn’t fair —

Today’s CrossFit workout was a killer – who says there is no Cardio in a CrossFit workout?

Warmup
400m run
DROM stretching
goblet squats
kb shoulder presses
pass thrus

Skill
KTE

WOD
20m AMRAP
100m run
20 Box Jumps
10 KTE
total: 8+100m

Box jumps/burpees/wall balls all KILL Me. I can’t breathe — its pure cardio hell in my book and 20 box jumps is the worst. You have to make sure you open your hips at the top for each rep, so you jump, stand up on the box and then come down. Yeah — I didn’t think that was fun either.
