Gotta Scale the Workout? It’s Ok!

I liked today’s workout, so I figured what the heck – I need to work on my Double Unders! We worked on head/handstands too so it was fun all around!

Warmupx2
25 Double Unders
25ft lunges
50 bear crawl

10 pass thrus
10 good mornings

Skill

Handstands
Headstands

WOD
12m AMRAP
50 (25) Double Unders
5 HSPU
Rounds: 6+10

Coach Nick told us to cut the double unders in half if you can’t do DUs well — so I did 25 instead of the 50 posted. That way I am not stuck with doing DU’s almost the entire WOD time.

It’s important sometimes to check yourself and look at your workout routine. Even someone as crazy (committed) as I am, has to breathe sometimes and look at what I am doing. Am I getting too wrapped up in it? Is it still bringing me joy? Am I training appropriately? I think it’s easy, especially when you are surrounded by people just as committed as you are to get wrapped up in the craziness of fitness and lose your senses and go beyond what makes sense for you.

CrossFit Games are here — and our gym is participating. The Games are Hard, by design. People train for them, its their career, their prize. I do not fit that profile. I follow the CrossFIt program for fitness, support and community.  I have to sometimes be reminded that I am not an Elite athlete – I am an athlete for sure, but not planning on being in the games and there will be times when the training becomes too much for my skill level. That’s not to say I can’t work towards progress and that level, it just means that there will be times when I have to admit to myself – Holy Shit, that is beyond me – gotta scale, and it’s ok!
