Getting the Kinks Out

So I broke down yesterday and got a deep tissue massage. That kink in my neck was not getting any better and I figured –let’s try something different. I didn’t know I was going to get a deep tissue massage until the guy started working on me trying to get that knot out. He kept saying how tight I was, relax — and then when he FINALLY Found the pain point — it was like night and day.

I am still laughing about the experience because he kept asking me if he was hurting me and I kept saying Nope -you can put more pressure, I’m good. And he said most men and women couldn’t handle the amount of pressure I am putting on you. I gotta think that the Lacrosse ball of pain has something to do with my pain threshold, that and my trusty go to excuse — Childbirth. I have given birth to babies — this aint nothing!  To be honest, I would have liked him to put even more pressure on it.

So, did it work? Yes and No. He did say he needed more time — one hour was not enough to work it all out. But I definitely feel looser and relaxed than I have in a very long while. I didn’t realize it until yesterday, how tight I am all over my body. He even found tight spots in the plane of my shoulders in the front –right where the shoulder meets the torso. Again, he could have put as much pressure as he needed and I would have been fine. I could feel the tightness but it didn’t hurt.

I do still have a slight crick in my neck but it’s way way better than it was and the rest of my body feels looser. I really think I need to work in a regular massage as part of my overall training and maintenance. It was amazing how tight all of my muscles were and I could have laid there for another hour or so — which is saying a lot because normally I am not a toucher.  Unless I know you well, I am usually very uncomfortable with someone being that up close and personal with me. This guy didn’t make me feel like that at all — and I gotta say, having a someone that was strong really was the key to the massage.
