Checking Off My Fitness To Do List

One Day at a Time

I gotta say things are certainly getting better as we get closer to the end of the week. Sometimes I just need to let it out into the universe –all the stress, emotion and anger — and maybe it releases some positive energy and allows me to break through stuff that ultimately was holding me back.  Who knows — maybe there really is no real world order and it’s all just chance and happenstance.

Last night before I coached the Kids class, one of my fellow CrossFit athlete friends found out that I indeed have struggled with climbing a rope. I realize it’s all technique and once you get that down pat, its not the hardest thing to do. If you know me, you know I have issues with body awareness, technique, left/right sequence. Something must have happened to me during a formative moment growing up that stunted my ability to tell my right from my left.  I still have to do that L thing with my index finger and thumb. What?!!  Don’t judge — we all have issues.  Anyway, she said come here and let me show you. I tried to get out of it – I had to prep for my kids class and my pal Tony Blauer had stopped by for a quick workout while he was in town. Do you think I wanted to embarrass myself in front of him?  Um – no.

Anna doesn’t take No for an answer with anything — so there I was, getting roped in to trying to climb it. (Pun was clever right?)  The way she showed me was different and guess what? It worked! So — guys, I can now climb a rope. I have to practice to make it go smoother but I got halfway up that darn thing!! I needed that win this week! A big thank you to Anna who first, didn’t take No for an answer and second, showing me a way that made sense to me and third, It WORKED!!

But it doesn’t stop there folks, this AM I also had a win. We did one of the famous ladies of CrossFit – Cindy. And for the first time, I did Cindy completely RX’d (as prescribed)! No modifications, no bands! The way it was created, imagined and written. What an awesome feeling tackling two milestones and displays of progress in one week –and one that started out as a really rough, don’t want to continue the week sort of way.  Goes to show you, you never know what will happen day to day. One day at time…
