Body Awareness is Key

Yesterday was a good day in many ways — Had some great workouts and some productive hours at my day job!

I have been switching up my workout schedule a bit — since committing to the CrossFit Endurance program in preparation for the American Odyssey Relay coming up in a few weeks. Last night I felt a breakthrough and although I am feeling said breakthrough this morning — it felt great. Not sure what I did to make the difference but I seemed to be more comfortable with the whole idea of falling forward while I am running. And of course by me getting it — I had to tough it out for the entire duration of the workout –14 rounds of 1 minute on/1 minute off running. I have no idea how far I ran –maybe 200m each time. I kept waiting for Coach Nate to say –“Steph, you’re done.” but he didn’t. I tried to will him to say it –no such luck. The thing is he was right not to — I was getting it for the first time and in a rhythm.  And although I was extra super exhausted/spent afterwards — I was giddy inside. It felt good to have a moment where I felt like A HA! Finally!  It was a good moment and one I was not sure would be coming any time soon in this CrossFit Endurance program.

It all goes back to body awareness — Are you aware of how your body moves and able to control it?  If you are like me and didn’t start young understanding and creating those neuro connections — then it can be tougher when you are an adult. But I am living proof that with time, practice and determinatpassionion to redefine who am I, it can be done.

Understanding how your body moves is key to running properly. Learning how to lean in and pull your leg up and not behind you — well there is a lot that goes into running. More than you would ever think but learning it will save you from injuries that could sideline you for a very long time. Nobody got time for that…

When I went to bed last night – i was spent. I shut my eyes –and I was asleep. When the alarm went off at 515A for my usual Friday AM CrossFit workout — i hit that damn snooze as hard as I could. No way was I getting up, so I did the unthinkable – i slept in!  Two workouts on Thursday=Rest day on Friday.  Gotta listen to my body and appreciate rest days. I am going to do some light mobility work though to help with some soreness. Gotta be active even on rest days albeit lightly active.

Have a great weekend all. I am attending a CrossFit Olympic Lifting Trainer’s Course this weekend which should be fun. I am so hungry to learn this stuff whether I coach or not. When you find your passion, you want to know it all.
