Perspective and Perception

people inspire you, or they drain you

This is such an important quote to take to heart. I have been around some people that inspire me to be better, to want to work harder and I have been around people that suck the wind out of you – and drag you down. Sometimes this can be one and same the person at different times or when you or they change. Change is inevitable –knowing when to move on is the key.

I have been reading and doing some introspection about Perspective and Perception lately.

Gaining perspective in your life is an important exercise that you must purposefully develop. By reading good books, speaking with older relatives, volunteering and observing little kids you can start to get a more rounded view of the world you are living. As you partake in these activities, train yourself to start looking at your life outside the realm of your current circumstances; see yourself as if 40 years from the future, and 30 years from the past. We all have very real problems and situations to deal with; some are in our control while others are not. The only thing that we really have control of is our emotions when dealing with situations. Gaining perspective is a wonderful tool for sustaining a meaningful and fulfilling life!

I have heard many times “unfortunately perception is reality”. This statement bugs me because I believe that if you are aware that perception can cloud the reality of a situation, you should, in theory, be able to step back and evaluate whatever is going on for what it is and then make sound decisions and react appropriately. Sometimes if you dig deeper, or peel the layers — what you find is nothing like what you thought.

…perception is NOT reality. Perception is merely one person’s interpretation of reality.

Your Perception is Reality

People lie about things everyday in order to evoke a better persona. It’s important to be conscious of your perception, because if you’re not, someone else will create it for you. It’s your life you need to decide how you’re going to live it.
