Be Awesome

I had the loveliest day yesterday – didn’t do anything crazy but heard from a ton of people, got treated special by my family – and got a few gifts from people that let me know that they get who I am. Of course, I indulged a bit as a birthday treat and all day today have had a dull headache and feel lethargic. It always seems worth it as I am eating the crap but the day after, I disagree with the decision.

FitnessFor those of you who read my blog and don’t really understand why I get so into CrossFit – here’s an article that encapsulates everything about CrossFit that I love:

I Came to be Awesome, Not Skinny

After reading it – all I could say was YES! I love that I am strong. Do I sometimes wish I was thinner and willowy? Yes but the reality is it’s not in the cards for me. I need to be healthy and I am a bad ass.

And it ties in nicely with something I wrote about today for people that are doing the Real Food Wellness Challenge at Highbar CrossFit that I am leading. I was thinking about how we as parents really do influence everything about how our kids see the world.  A few of the members are now accompanied by their teen kids in the morning. We aren’t talking 6A — we are taking 5A. They get up before school and workout right along side their Mom. They didn’t do it before their Mom started exercising –they do it because their Mom started being active. Same goes for showing interest in nutrition and putting forth the effort in cooking and eating healthier. Kids may not overtly notice – but they see everything and take it all in.  It’s really amazing, scary, awesome how we as parents really do have a lot of responsibility on our shoulders!
