And on Friday, I rest and think a lot.

Today is my most appreciated day – Rest Day Friday. I get to sleep in past 5a and don’t think for one second I don’t take full advantage of that!

I have a few things on my mind that I wanted to talk about today and they are totally unrelated so bear with me.

First, let’s talk about Fasts and Cleanses. My trainer’s wife recently reported on a cleanse she just finished called Daniel’s Diet.  It is a a 10 day Detox and Weight Loss program. As I have mentioned, Plumbline Training is a faith-based company.  This is considered a biblical based diet.  She said that although it was tough and in the middle she had thoughts about giving up, she got through it, and feels great.

There are a ton of other cleanses/detox programs you can do. I have friends that have done the Master Cleanse, Dr Natura, and the list can go on and on. Everyone reports that they felt great afterward.   Why do we even need to cleanse? Is it because of the way food is prepared/delivered to us nowadays – to remove years of toxins? I’m not sure if I am really interested in doing a cleanse – although I could see where it would be beneficial but it is also interesting to see just how many different approaches there are to cleansing out your system and which one is right or does that job completely? How about just eating clean? Would that do it?  Does anyone else have any information they can share?

Next topic – the state of public schools. I read this article this morning from the Post.  I am just getting situated into the public school space – Hannah is in 2nd grade. This is so scary to read. I have so many memories of the world being my oyster in school. I could try any number of different sports, we had music, language, art, gym at our disposal. Remember that?  And although my hometown did not have any bus transportation and we had to walk at least 1.5 to school – (I say 3 miles but Scotty insisted on driving it a while back while we were back visiting to prove I was incorrect) – in the snow/rain/sleet etc, I have wonderful memories and lasting learning experiences from those very things, schools are looking to cut. How are we going to develop our next generation into productive citizens who make a real difference in the world if we are cutting a ton of the very things that help shape them?  It’s going to be up to the individual parents to pick up the slack that the schools are dropping and for most of us, that’s possible and do-able.  But for so many others who have enough issues parenting in general, is this even a reasonable request?

OK, now that I have those thoughts out of my head and onto here – what did you do today to help you live a healthy and fit life?
