I just said goodbye to my cat of 15 years – Jedi. He started getting sick about a week ago — but nothing specific but by yesterday he wasn’t eating or drinking. Scott took him to the vet and he was having massive kidney failure and said that there was not much more we could do.
It’s so hard to lose a pet for many reasons…they are a member of your family, a personality within your family unit no doubt – but also for what they can represent. Adopting Jedi was the first thing Scott and I did as a couple in Tucson Arizona. We set out to adopt a kitty one Saturday — drove all around town but I was told that it wasn’t a cat breeding time so that kittens would be few and far between. We had stopped at the local Petsmart and there he was — small, rambunctious — but not particularly a stand out. But we wanted a kitty then and there — so we took him home.
He was so precocious as a kitten — attacking us when we were in bed in the dark — He drove with us in the car when we moved to No VA from Arizona – sneaking him into the hotel at night. We lost Jedi once — we had a fridge repair person leave our door open and he ran out. We looked everywhere but couldn’t fine him. He was an inside cat so he was not well versed in outdoor life – my spoiled kitty. 2 days before Scott and I were headed off on a vacation, we were out on our patio and we look out and lo and behold – there he was. Super de-hydrated but ok. ‘Return of the Jedi’ was the joke. After that 3 week vacation — he seemed to come back crankier but we still welcomed him back.
Scully came into our life in 1999 and Jedi was not happy. He never learned to live with Scully the dog. He chose to stay in our basement and coming out via the kitty door only when Scully was outside. True story – the day after we lost Scully – I saw Jedi sprawled out on the kitchen floor. You could almost hear him saying ‘I’m back baby’. He was a changed cat — out and about – sleeping in our bed again like 10 years earlier. Keeping us company in the family room. Finding room in his heart for Hannah — not really for Nate. Nate loved to torment Jed. Run after him, try to pick him up, make loud noises to scare him — typical boy stuff.
I’m glad he was able to live his last year or so the solitary kitty life he seemd to enjoy – with no dogs or other pets to have to deal with. He had a good life —
My JJ, Jedidiah, Juju, Jedster…Jedi.
Thanks for letting us be a part of your life.

Oh, Stephy. I’m sorry to read about Jedi. Hugs to you! But how great to have him in your life for 15 years. He sounds like he had a big personality!
I’m sorry about Jedi, but he’s feeling much better now. Losing a pet is so hard and you really don’t understand the pain until you’ve gone through it. Jedi will be a crazy kitty once again in pet heaven! RIP little guy.
