DC United Athletes Give Back
You know what I love? Athletes who don’t let fame and their title change them so much that they forget how important it is to stay connected to the community. Yesterday, I met a pretty famous soccer player named Dwayne De Rosario. I am not a follower of soccer, so I would not have known him if I saw him at Wegmans but was told and later verified he is legit. And after yesterday, I just may become a fan!
What struck me about spending time with him is how down to earth, nice and genuine he was. He donated some of his time to read some stories to some online public school students that are run by K12, Inc. We drove to RFK stadium and recorded him and another soccer player, Perry Kitchen reading some stories to a few of CAPCS Online students so we can share it with the rest of our school community when its complete.
What struck me about 2D R (as he is called) was that he didn’t have to do it –he was asked last minute and came through. He also read a few extra books than we asked for, took the time to talk to the kids, took pics and didn’t rush the time we had with him. The person who set it all up for us shared that Dwayne doesn’t do appearances that pay him or for big profit companies and really believes in the overall mission of DC United. I am not going to miss mentioning how handsome Dwayne is as well. Holy smokes!
DC United is committed to giving back to the community and they have appearances scheduled for the team just about 365 days a year!
Also, weekend before last, Redskin RG3 stopped by the Broad Run HS football game just to hang out. Athletes not forgetting where they came from and the influence they have, is the kind of stuff I love to hear about!
Today’s workout was ying and yang for me. I love deadlifts, hate burpees and the combo of both together in this WOD actually made me appreciate the burpees we did. And I don’t say that often!
Warmup
50 Double Unders
50 Jumping Jacks
10 Handstand Holds
Skill
Handstands
Deadlifts
WOD
12 RFT
- 12 Deadlifts (105#)

This was a good couplet workout and those deadlifts were hard as heck! But I’m glad I went and now ready to take on the rest of my day!
