Tabata This, Tabata That

Tabatas were on the menu for today. Nothing like some intense interval training to kick start your morning. If you haven’t done Tabatas before — try them. They are a great thing to do if you are traveling — just need a stop watch to keep track of your time and go at it with any series of exercises.

What is a Tabata? For twenty seconds do as many reps of the assigned exercise as you can – then rest 10 seconds. Repeat this seven more times for a total of 8 intervals, 4 minutes total exercise. The score is the least number of reps for any of the eight intervals.

  1. I LOVE this kind of intense workout. I’m going to have to give this a shot next Monday (my normal interval training day). Tabata: it’s even fun to say. I try to keep myself real fit, and variation seems to be a key ingredient.
I’ve started blogging about it a bit, but surely not to the extent you have here. This is way intimidating, given my meager efforts. I do have a bit of a different goal, perhaps: to help show anyone they can take small steps, live a normal life (not focusing entirely on their exercise regime and diet), and end up reasonably fit and healthy. At the same time, though, I’m often guilty of paying close attention to what I eat and exercising myself stupid. We’re all different. Anyway, thanks for the Tabata idea!
