Since it’s a long holiday weekend, I decided to use this afternoon to re-organize and clean out my closet. I have dropped 2-3 sizes since I lost weight and made the conscious decision that I will not need those larger sizes any longer. I am not that person anymore and will not go back there. It was fun, exhausting, and overwhelming all at the same time. Finding a large block of time to properly go through everything is hard to come by, but I found myself with some time this afternoon. I went through every skirt, every dress, every shirt and sweater and I am a big jacket, cardi person so boy did I have a ton of those. I decided that for 2010, I will only hold on to clothes that fit me well, so larger jackets do not fit in that category so out of the closet they went.
Once I removed the unwanted clothes, I then used those Wonder Hangers. You know the ones you saw on TV!? Now, I am not sold on these. I put them into action and it seems to me the only thing it really does is move the space lower. I have double closet rods so I ended up using them on the ends of each rod. We shall see how it goes. Have you used them successfully?
Then I decided to organize the clothes by color. Reds, greys, yellow, etc…and then the entire bottom rod is basically BLACK. I wear a lot of black. I mean not just a lot, mostly black and I now have proof.
Now what to do with all of those old clothes? There is one skirt I am going to look into having it altered. As for the rest of them – they aren’t really worth it in my opinion. I do think for some of them I may give Ebay a try. There are some good brands in the mix and some of them have tags still on them. I ended up with 3 large bags full of clothes. Jeans, skirts, sweaters, you name it.
A few things I confirmed with this exercise:
I like to shop.
I like to wear black.
I like sweaters and jackets.
My closet is too small for me (and I have the bigger of the 2 closets in the master bedroom)
And one thing I learned from this:
You really can have too many black cardigans. Before today, I would not have believed that possible.
Try cleaning out one of your closets one day. Even if it’s just the hall closet. It gives you a great feeling of accomplishment and clarity. I wonder how long that will last…
